Welltok Seattle Moving into New Digs
By Travis McElfresh
Less than six weeks ago, Welltok made headlines with the acquisition of Mindbloom – the innovative mobile health experts behind popular, top-rated apps including Bloom, LifeGame and Juice.
Our band of creative and technical folks used our backgrounds in design, gaming, technology and behavioral science to build a fun start-up, with a great culture, and amazing products.
At the beginning of this year we met Welltok, an emerging healthcare company with a great team, a proven business model and a strong desire to expand consumer engagement and mobile development capabilities. A perfect match.
Seattle has become a hub for UX designers and mobile engineers. A number of innovative companies have opened offices in the Seattle area to tap into this pool of talent including eBay, Google, Facebook and Zynga. These cool brands have attracted even more talent to Seattle region. The result: a competitive and fast-growing talent market. Companies with the best opportunities will win the attention of this highly selective pool of talent.
Welltok’s vision comes with big opportunities for stellar talent, which is why we’ve upgraded our Seattle office with room to expand. Following an extensive search of the Seattle area, we selected the Columbia Center building for its easy access off of I-5 and central downtown location. A short walk gets you to the waterfront, Pike’s Place, or an evening Mariner’s, Sounders or Seahawks game. Construction of the new office completes this week and the team moves in after 6 months of squatting in the Tower Club (hard to complain). The Columbia Center is packed with three floors of services including a wide range of food selections, a gym with towel service, bicycle friendly facilities, dry cleaning, postal packing, etc. You can likely catch the team at Juicy Café, our new favorite lunch spot.
We’ll be in good company too. Several high-tech, high-profile brands have moved in, including our new neighbors Rhapsody and NBC News Digital. These new custom-built digs are stunning - huge open plans beautifully designed to promote team collaboration and productivity. The Welltok office, also built to spec, infuses corporate branding and colors throughout, with polished concrete floors, glassed-in conference and team rooms, walls covered with whiteboard paint primed for creative explosion. There is even a spot for a piece of Mindbloom history, an old foosball table that we kept with the promise that it was a major productivity enhancer.
Seattle start-ups have been at the center of reforming many industries with technology. Amazon reformed the retail industry. Expedia reformed the travel industry. Msnbc.com reformed the news industry. Zillow is reforming the real estate industry. And now, Welltok is reforming the consumer health industry. There are only a few remaining industries to get a technology refactor… healthcare is in the hot seat.
